Math Centers Math Tins - This center is such fun!! I purchased Altoid Tins from ebay and put a label on them then I purchased magnetic coins from the local teacher store. I created sheets of paper with different amounts of money on them and cut them up. The children pull out a sheet of paper and show that amount in their Altoid Tins. The magnetic coins stick to the inside of the tins and I can walk around and see that they understand the concept. Bean Math - Bean math is so easy to make you could create a bunch of these in one weekend to use in your classroom..if you have the materials. All you need are several egg cartons. Cover the top with a label like I did and write numbers in all the 'egg' holes inside. Put 2 or 3 beans in the carton and close the lid. The children will have a ball shaking the cartons!!! After shaking the cartons they open to see where the beans fell. If they fell in the 5 and the 6 they have to figure out that 5 + 6 = 11. Or to really challenge them or for older kids use multiplication 5X6=30. So easy and fun!! Tile Cards/Math- My kids LOVE this center. I use Marcy Cook tile mats and have both laminated paper tile squares as well as hard tile ones. I have various degrees of difficulty that I use here. Some are fill in the answer to the math equation others involve time, multiplication, arrays, etc. Math File Folder Games - These I have either created, purchased or got as hand me downs. There are several different types of math skills that are focused on within these games. Toss and Tally Center - This center gets children familiar with tally marks. They toss pennies, if it lands on heads they put a tally mark on the heads column, if it lands on tails they put the tally mark on the tails column. At the end they have to add up all their tally marks. This site created and maintained by Vicky Moore 2007-2010
